This book was super cute。 This book is about a little girl named Ella and her Fairy mother。 Her mother is not very good at magic at all, but she tries really hard。 It was funny, and filled with so many life lessons。 I definitely suggest this book for any girls looking into a first chapter books。

Fairy Mom and Me by Sophie Kinsella found its place in my reading list almost directly after The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz。 That’s a tough act to follow; The Night Fairy's subtlety contrasted against Fairy Mom and Me’s straightforward narration maybe moreso than it would have if I had read some other books in between。 This is not to say that Fairy Mom and Me is poorly written in any way。 But it seems almost overly eager to please its audience with an overabundance of adult cluelessness, w Fairy Mom and Me by Sophie Kinsella found its place in my reading list almost directly after The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz。 That’s a tough act to follow; The Night Fairy's subtlety contrasted against Fairy Mom and Me’s straightforward narration maybe moreso than it would have if I had read some other books in between。 This is not to say that Fairy Mom and Me is poorly written in any way。 But it seems almost overly eager to please its audience with an overabundance of adult cluelessness, wacky hijinks, and mean bullies getting their due。 The premise is that the narrator Ella has a fairy for a mom。 One day Ella will have full-fledged fairy powers, too, but for right now, she gives Mom a hand, mostly by helping her navigate the fairy technology that relies on different codes for different spells。It’s fun for kids when they can explain things to adults, and technology is one of the categories where they often genuinely know what they’re doing。 So on the surface, I really liked the idea of Ella assisting with her mom’s spells。 I got a bit stuck, however, when Ella doesn’t so much as help her mother as do every step for her。 The mother is so terrible at remembering codes and using magic that she’s less absentminded and more dangerously incompetent。 (There’s also a lot of space taken up by the mother transforming in and out of her fairy form。)The antagonist of the story is a mean girl character who doesn’t seem to have any particular reason for disliking Ella but simply wants to see her fail。 This is another element I would have loved to see developed more。 Chapter books may be geared towards a young audience, but these readers can often handle way more than adults think。 Even picture books, which aim younger still, can have misunderstandings between characters, personality clashes that need to be worked through, and characters who grow and learn。 Children can have agency in their adventures while still having parents who are capable and competent。One minor note on the world of Fairy Mom and Me: Boys can’t have magical powers, which I could see disappointing a lot of readers。 There’s so many kids books on the shelves right now that incorporate male characters into what would normally be more “girly” topics。 You Don’t Want a Unicorn by Ame Dyckman and It’s Not All Rainbows by Jessika Von Innerebner spring to mind。 I didn’t need a male protagonist, but calling out the boys specifically as being incapable of magic just didn’t seem necessary。Overall, it’s a cute concept in a fine book。 I’m sure plenty of young readers will enjoy it and not be bothered by these things that stand out to me as an adult。 But it had the potential to be much more。Rating: 2 out of 5 。。。more

A cute early chapter book。 Lessons about honesty, friendship, and good sportsmanship。 I will strongly consider getting this for my library。

The story itself is really fun and cute, but I never love books that set the children as the responsible characters and the adults as the constant screw ups。 There were too many situations where the mother is making a choice while her daughter is suggesting it's not wise。 The story itself is really fun and cute, but I never love books that set the children as the responsible characters and the adults as the constant screw ups。 There were too many situations where the mother is making a choice while her daughter is suggesting it's not wise。 。。。more

Look this author for adult books so I thought I would try the younger books with me daughter。 This book just did not work for me。 I'm not sure what the take away is supposed to be, doing things the right way is important maybe? I think the idea was cute but I just didn't see the bond between the mother and daughter the way I wanted to。 Look this author for adult books so I thought I would try the younger books with me daughter。 This book just did not work for me。 I'm not sure what the take away is supposed to be, doing things the right way is important maybe? This was perfect for my 4 year old。 I’ve been looking for chapters books that are right for her age group; not too long, with just the right amount of description and detail and overall exciting for her to listen too。 And this book ticked all the boxes。 Simple and fun。 We’re onto the second book now and my daughter pretends to have a computawand and make magic!! The illustrations are also great。 I love the style。 Will certainly continue with the others in the series。

4 stars from my grandson。 I would give it 3, but he is more the target audience, so the 4 stands。 Includes potential discussion questions at the end of the book, some of which I found a good idea, and other ones I would not focus on with kids unless they are having specific issues in that area。Focus on being different, unique, and NOT being the best at everything, all while dealing with the jerky girl who is the basic "mean girl。" 4 stars from my grandson。 I would give it 3, but he is more the target audience, so the 4 stands。 Includes potential discussion questions at the end of the book, some of which I found a good idea, and other ones I would not focus on with kids unless they are having specific issues in that area。Focus on being different, unique, and NOT being the best at everything, all while dealing with the jerky girl who is the basic "mean girl。" 。。。more

Really cute book because of the mom。 Mom gets into quite a bit of trouble because she's not so great with magic。 Would read more if this is a series。 Really cute book because of the mom。 Mom gets into quite a bit of trouble because she's not so great with magic。 Would read more if this is a series。 。。。more

A fun read, definitely a book for children and to educate them in a fun way。 It has questions at the back meant to make you interact with them and even bake cookies in shapes of a fairy wand :) The fairies methods are modern which is a nice touch。 It's a great book I'd like to read again but for my children if I ever have them。 A fun read, definitely a book for children and to educate them in a fun way。 It has questions at the back meant to make you interact with them and even bake cookies in shapes of a fairy wand :) The fairies methods are modern which is a nice touch。 It's a great book I'd like to read again but for my children if I ever have them。 。。。more

Skulle ABSOLUT rekommendera till en typ åtta-nioåring。 Eller som högläsning för yngre。 Kan se framför mig hur många av mina elever skulle tindra med ögonen och gapskratta。

We loved this book! Have read all of Sophie Kinsella’s books & enjoyed most of them a lot。 I didn’t know how I was going to feel about a children’s book but I really enjoyed it & Miss 7 loved it。 Ella’s mum can turn herself into a fairy。 She is a great mum but when she becomes Mummy Fairy things tend to end up being a bit of a disaster, often with incredibly amusing outcomes。 The book had 3 mini stories in which was great as it meant that it was easy for younger audiences to follow & comprehend。 We loved this book! Adorable。 I read it aloud to my kids and they laughed uproariously through the whole thing。 Lots of silly adventures, a wonderful answer to the kids without parents trope, and great morals without being heavy handed。
